Defining Merchandising Styles

An item may support multiple pallet Merchandising Styles -- useful when a product can be displayed in different ways, though the item for purchase is the same (this is not the same as selling a single vs. a 6-pack of soda, for example)

To define multiple merchandising styles for the same item, add one row to your catalog spreadsheet for each required merchandising style. Each row must have:

  • The same item_id value
  • A different merch_style value

It is required there is one entry per item_id with a blank (default) merch_style.

For non-default merch_style item variants, you only need to specify data that differs from the default merch_style values. For example, if only the width and image_uri columns are different from some item's "Tray" variant, all other columns in that variant's row can be left blank. Blank column values will use the default variant's values.

A small sample spreadsheet, defining two merch styles for the same SKU (default and Tray). Any blank columns in the Tray merch_style row will infer their values from the default row

Example use cases for merch_styles include:

  • Tray / Carton / PDQ: When an item will be merchandised as it was shipped, in a bulk tray or carton
  • Folded vs. Hanging Clothing
  • Loose vs. Boxed Produce
